April/ May 2020

In all of these years this is the first time I remember writing a combination Bulletin for two months. In 62 years of pastoring, I have never had a forced shutdown of the church before. I am writing this on March 30, knowing that the Church may not reopen in April to hold regular services. The pressure that has been laid on the American people is tremendous. I look to Psalms 91 and find strength for today. Certainly, he is our resource and deliverer. In him will I trust, for we dwell in the secret place of the most high; for he is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in him will I trust. I also like the word of strength from the 23rd Psalm verse 4 “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” In my years of ministry, I have walked in the shadow of death several times. The hand of the Lord has brought healing and deliverance a number of times. I have had doctors look me in the eye and say “Deckard, you should have been dead.” The healing hand of God has swept over my body and I am still here, sharing with you today that God’s hand is not shortened, and what he has done in the past, he is capable of doing today. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The illness that has spread around the world is still in the hands of the Lord and he is able to deliver. In Exodus 3:7, the Lord spoke to Moses and said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people.” Also, in Second Chronicles 7:14 the Lord said “If my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” The road is well established. Most of man’s ways are out of date, but God’s ways are never out of date. Call upon the Lord, and he will answer you. Trust in him! He will see you through ALL the rough terrain.

Rita’s Review

Well, here we are, at a threshold it
seems for America and the world. It is
absolutely amazing how quickly our
lives have changed. Within a few weeks
we went from a bustling economy to a
very fragile one. We went from
socializing to social-distancing. And of
course we went from a one-day-at-a-
time mentality to hoarding. People are
anxious, and turning to anything that
will give clarity about the situation we
are in. Now is the time to speak up and
be heard for the cause of Christ! As
Christians, we know that God has this
whole situation under control. He’s
very aware, and I believe, he plans to
use this for another great revival of his
Church. Now, there is technology
available to send the Good News of
Redemption and Peace to many who
would not ordinarily listen. In this
hour, the social media can be used for
GOOD! The youtube channels are
filled with sermons. While we are to
stay at home, we can still be fed with
the Word. We can tune in and worship
with talented musicians who like the
psalmist David, can soothe the soul with
sweet hymns and praises.
Look for the positive in this situation!
Families can reunite; lives can take a
“breather” from the frantic pace we’ve
all been living. And best of all, Christ is
coming for his church! It could be very,
very soon! Take this time to share with
others the Good News of the Savior!
Remember, God has everything under
control! -rita
